Guinness is good for Aintree

Aintree Racecourse has signed a deal with drinks giant Diageo that will see its Guinness stout brand become an official partner of the venue for the 2014 Grand National.

Guinness will also be given the designation of 'official responsible drinking partner of Aintree' for the duration of the Grand National Festival, which begins today and ends on Saturday with the Grand National race itself.

Alcoholic ginger beer brand Crabbie's is the new title sponsor of the Grand National this year, replacing Heineken brand John Smith's.

"The Guinness brand shares our passion and vision for the festival and the partnership will see us work together to provide the best possible experience for punters,” said John Baker, North West regional director of the Jockey Club, which owns and operates the Aintree venue.

"Aintree is recognised as one of the most famous racecourses in the world and the new partnership demonstrates our ambition to deliver engaging experiences for punters whilst pouring great pints of the black stuff and promoting responsible drinking,” said Rory Sheridan, Diageo's head of sponsorship for western Europe.
